Hastings City Hall

Hastings City Hall - Tour
June 23, 2026

Thank you to everyone who attended our behind-the-scenes tour of the historic Hastings City Hall. We extend our sincere appreciation to Charlie Judge, Facilities Manager, for providing an informative presentation and guided look at the recently completed structural restoration and preservation project.

Charlie shared how the extensive work has helped preserve this iconic 1871 building while modernizing critical infrastructure. Participants learned about the project’s major components, including masonry restoration, dome repairs, HVAC system upgrades, the removal of the 1980s boiler plant, and the connection of City Hall’s heating system to the upgraded boiler plant at the adjacent police station. These improvements have enhanced efficiency while maintaining the building’s historic character for future generations.

Originally completed in 1871 as the Dakota County Courthouse and designed by A.M. Radcliff in the Italian Villa style, Hastings City Hall remains one of the community’s most treasured historic landmarks. The restoration project, completed in late 2025, required specialized contractors and careful adherence to historic preservation standards to ensure the 150-year-old building continues to serve the community for years to come.

A special thank you to Inspec for generously sponsoring coffee and doughnuts from Hastings’ own Froth & Cork, helping make the morning even more enjoyable for all who attended.

Thank you again to Charlie, Inspec, MNCEG Professional Development Committee, and everyone who joined us for this engaging and educational event.
